We are extremely happy to announce that our office is now a certified Bioclear provider.
What is Bioclear?
Developed by Dr. David Clark, the Bioclear method is an innovative and new technique in dentistry that focuses on minimal tooth reduction and restoration methods that put the patient first while providing functional and long lasting outcomes.
In a traditional filling, a box form is cut into the tooth to remove the decay. A bonding agent is placed and the composite material is then inserted, usually in layers.
There are 3 problems with this method:
The first is that there is very little enamel used for bonding -- just a ring around the edge of the tooth. Enamel is our strongest bonding surface and we want as much as possible grabbed by the filling.
The second problem is that the metal ring used to form the filling does not allow a correct, anatomical shape to be created.
This is why we see such a huge incidence of early failures of composite filling materials.
In the Bioclear method, the preparation is shaped to look like a Calla Lily or mouth of a trumpet with a smooth rounded shape from inside to outside.
The Bioclear method uses Mylar matrices that have correct anatomical shape to prevent overhangs, create infinity margins and allows curing light to cure through it. A specially developed composite material, heated to a precise temperature is then injected into the matrix and tooth preparation to complete the procedure.
There are no tension junctions. The composite blends into the tooth with an infinity edge on the enamel. The restoration is in compression, not tension, and is 4x stronger than a conventional filling, giving us a durable, long lasting, comfortable restoration while preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible.
